Over the years, Hitler changes to a filthy, senile beast who has his right leg amputated above the knee and his left leg amputated above the ankle as gangrene sets in. Enjoy the book, I did. The main American, Beau Valentine, is a complex, highly competent guy who, contrary to the intelligence community party line, becomes wise to the adventures of the Russians and Germans, and does his best heywood the truth.
He provides a reasonable rationale for the patriotism held by Soviet citizens that I could appreciate, and while I disagreed with it, he even provided a rationale for Stalin’s justification of his genocides.

The author paints vivid, realistic pictures of wartime Germany, and the actions, methods, and philosophies of each of the participants are portrayed quite accurately.
Clearly they were the embodiment of evil, and this book makes no excuses for their heinous and criminal activities, but it does bring to light the fact that they were real, breathing, living, hehwood, feeling people, regardless of their misconceptions.
